چکیده

The locations of ultralow-velocity zones (ULVZs) at the core-mantle boundary (CMB) have been linked to a variety features including hot spot volcanoes and large low-velocity province (LLVP) boundaries, yet only small portion CMB region has probed for ULVZ existence. Here we present new map lower mantle heterogeneity using global collection highly anomalous SPdKS recordings based on dataset more than 58,000 radial component seismograms, which sample 56.9% by surface area. inference location seismic phase is challenging due source-versus receiver-side ambiguity. Due this ambiguity, conducted an inversion principle parsimony. genetic algorithm repeated several thousand times in order construct probability maps. This analysis reveals that probabilities 0.5, 0.25, 0.125 up 1.3%, 8.2%, or 19.7% may contain ULVZ-like heterogeneities. These heterogeneities exist all settings, both high- regions. Additionally, evidence Samoan be twice as previously estimated, also existence additional mega-sized ULVZs, such newly discovered located east Philippines. We provide Philippines through ScP records.

Most Compact Parsimonious Trees

Construction of phylogenetic trees has traditionally focused on binary trees where all species appear on leaves, a problem for which numerous efficient solutions have been developed. Certain application domains though, such as viral evolution and transmission, paleontology, linguistics, and phylogenetic stemmatics, often require phylogeny inference that involves placing input species on ancestr...

The most parsimonious tree for random data.

Applying a method to reconstruct a phylogenetic tree from random data provides a way to detect whether that method has an inherent bias towards certain tree 'shapes'. For maximum parsimony, applied to a sequence of random 2-state data, each possible binary phylogenetic tree has exactly the same distribution for its parsimony score. Despite this pleasing and slightly surprising symmetry, some bi...

Inferences on ultralow-velocity zone structure from a global analysis of SPdKS waves

[1] Anomalous boundary layer structure at the core-mantle boundary (CMB) is investigated using a global set of broadband SKS and SPdKS waves from permanent and portable broadband seismometer arrays. SPdKS is an SKS wave that intersects the CMB at the critical angle for ScP, thus initiating a diffracted P wave (Pdiff) along the CMB at the core entry and exit locations. The waveshape and timing o...

Buneman pruning for inferring the most parsimonious multi - state phylogeny

Accurate reconstruction of phylogenies remains a key challenge in evolutionary biology. Most biologically plausible formulations of the problem are formally NP-hard, with no known efficient solution. The standard in practice are fast heuristic methods that are empirically known to work very well in general, but can yield results arbitrarily far from optimal. Practical exact methods, which yield...

Efficiently Finding the Most Parsimonious Phylogenetic Tree Via Linear Programming

Reconstruction of phylogenetic trees is a fundamental problem in computational biology. While excellent heuristic methods are available for many variants of this problem, new advances in phylogeny inference will be required if we are to be able to continue to make effective use of the rapidly growing stores of variation data now being gathered. In this paper, we introduce an integer linear prog...
